Last Saturday, we had our annual Veggie Kids summer cookout. I started this group around 6 years ago, because I wanted to find more vegetarian and vegan kids for my children to know and become friends with. I advertised at local health food stores and homeschool groups. We have had great turnouts for events and the group is growing. We have about 50 families on the email list, and we had about 10 families show up last weekend, with about 25-30 vegan kids there. We met at the Metroparks, and grilled veggie burgers, and roasted peppers. Everyone brought a dish to share, and we had a lot of variety of main dishes and desserts. It's been a great group for my kids to belong to, and to know they are not alone in their vegan world. My kids love talking about their diet to people and the older ones totally understand why they are vegan, as far as health aspects, world/environmental reasons, animal welfare reasons and non-violence reasons. It's a good thing all around.
Here are some websites to find great vegan recipes:

There is a new 11-minute video from Nonviolence United. It has some very nice images and a beautiful message, and it doesn’t have gory pictures. Check out http://www.nonviolenceunited.org:80/veganvideo.html.
